Take it down to the wire

We say that cricket is really unpredictable, and anything can happen. When it comes T20 it is slaughter of bowlers kind of. However there are instances bowlers have done magical work. One of the best was Rangana Herath going through Kiwis.

When you look at the second half of IPL, most of the matches, I do not have exact numbers went down the wire. Many matches went to the last over or two.

If you are batting second, take it deep. Take it to the end. We have seen this in IPL and as well in our matches against Oman and against Bangladesh as well. During IPL Qualifiers and also in the Final, if KKR did not lose wickets in the middle. If you can keep wickets, you have great chance.

And as well we have so many collapses in teams batting first and as well as the second. That happened today as well where PNG were 102 for three and then collapsed. For a recent example DC almost won the qualifier where KKR collapsed.

So, the world cup is widely open. This T20 world is not only about power hitting. And likes of Dravid, Mahela, Kane, Root have shown that touch players can also win T20 wins.

Finally, cricket is always unpredictable and a wonderful game.

//T20 cricket has usually been a one-way traffic of unapologetic hitting by batters but this hasn’t been your usual Indian Premier League. The average scores have gone down, middle-overs spells have become more unyielding and slog overs are no longer a bowlers’ graveyard. In 2020, there were 13 team totals over 200 in the UAE. This time, only one out of nine 200-plus totals have come in the UAE, at Abu Dhabi where Mumbai Indians hammered 235 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Compared to 734 sixes in 2020, only 670 were hit till the second qualifier this time.//
